Music Mentors

Alwin Leung

| Piano | Acoustic Guitar | Electric Guitar | Bass | Drums | Play & sing |

Music is a continuous life-long passion for Alwin. He’s been playing piano since he was 3 and a half years old, but soon got tired of learning only classical music and started to transition to playing pop music, which made him much happier. At 12 years old, he started songwriting and decided he needed to expand his musical horizons so he self-taught himself guitar; that started him on a quest to learn all the band instruments so he could play with anyone, anywhere, in any role.

He also worked hard on singing and training his ear so that he could learn pop songs quickly. Fast forward through many years of playing, writing, and performing solo and in bands on stages big and small; when he stumbled across open mic events in 2015, he became intrigued when he saw any venue could be a jumping off point for great live music and soon after, he began to host these events and even founded FreeJam (Instagram) so anyone could enjoy perfoming music live.

Alwin has always used music as a medium to spread joy, not only as a performer, but also as an educator, a mentor, and as a musical role model. His many years of being self-taught across various instruments have given him an excellent grasp of how people see and experience music, and by sharing his perspective across all instruments in both an individual and band contexts, he gives those he mentors the knowledge and the steps they need to achieve their musical goals and dreams.

Music is very personal, and Alwin understands that; different individuals have different expectations, different ways of learning, and different goals. Alwin always guides everyone as a unique individual to bring the best out of them in a way that would suit them best across all aspects, includings songs, teaching methods, and pace of progress.
